1 winning Powerball ticket sold in California worth $447M

The owner of the California deli that sold the sole jackpot winning Powerball ticket on Saturday calls the win "unbelievable".

The numbers drawn were 32, 26, 20, 38 and 58.

The victor could take 29-year payout or a one-time, before-tax lump sum of $279.1 million.

The year began terribly for the family because Alberre's father was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis.

The owner of a Southern California liquor store says he doesn't know who bought the winning $447.8 million Powerball ticket. Both prize amounts would be before taxes are deducted.

Earlier in June, Missouri saw even longer delays in identifying a Powerball victor after Dennis Shmigelsky carried around his winning $50,000 ticket for two months.

The jackpot is the tenth biggest in USA history and has odds of winning that are one in 292 million.

The largest lottery jackpot in US was just in January of past year, when three winners split a total of $1.8 billion. The business will receive a $1 million bonus for selling the ticket. California is one of 44 states, plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, that participate in Powerball.

Alberre says the store just off a highway caters to retirees who live in Sun City and motorists who are passing through.

Before the drawing Saturday night the jackpot was estimated at $435 million (£341million).

Menifee has about 89,000 residents.
