Apple unveils 'the most powerful Mac we have ever made'

Earnest Maxwell | 09 June, 2017, 03:25

Both the firm's 4K and 5K desktop computers have been upgraded with new displays, which Apple claims are 43 per cent brighter than the previous generation, 7th-gen Intel Kaby Lake processors and a choice of 32GB of ram on the 21.5in model and 64GB RAM on the 27in version.

The 21.5-inch model will come with an Intel Iris Plus 640 GPU, while the 4K 21.5-inch models will feature Radeon Pro 555 and 560 graphics cards. The all-new iMac Pro can handle the toughest tasks beyond your Photoshop like advanced graphics editing, virtual reality content creation and real-time 3D rendering. You'll be able to deck it out with up to 128GB of ECC memory (twice the maximum allowance in the standard 27-inch iMac) and up to 4TB of SSD storage that reads and writes data at up to 3GBs per second.

We might not have gotten a look at the all-new customisable Mac Pro that Apple is working on, but that doesn't mean that Tim Cook and friends didn't deliver some serious upgrades to our desks during Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) kickoff on Monday.

Some more iMac Pro spec details.

Featuring next-generation Intel Xeon processors up to 18 cores, iMac Pro is created to handle the most demanding pro workflows.

There are two Thunderbolt 3 ports included now to help users expand their system with different external devices.

With thin and light designs, powerful performance, fantastic displays and all-day battery life, Mac notebooks deliver the world's best portable computing experience.* MacBook now features faster Kaby Lake processors up to 1.3 GHz Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 3.6 GHz and up to 50 percent faster SSD, and supports up to twice the memory.

Apple didn't just stop at MacBook Pros, also announcing that the MacBook Air is going to get a bit of a boost in clock speed. According to benchmarking scores taken from several Geekbench 4 results, the new 15-inch MacBook Pro that is configured with the latest i7 processor clocked in at 2.90GHz (it's the i7-7820HQ chip for those that are wondering) obtained an average single-core and multi-core scores of 4,632 and 15,747 respectively.

New iMac models will be available for order this week, start June 7th. This is the most powerful machine ever built by Apple. For the first time ever on a Mac, iMac Pro features 10Gb Ethernet for up to 10 times faster networking.

The new line of refreshed MacBooks and MacBook Pros are here. All the models will be available in Space Gray or Silver colors and the models will be customized at an additional cost.
