Top seed Andy Murray outplayed Russia's Karen Khachanov 6-3 6-4 6-4 in the French Open fourth round on Monday to set up a quarter-final showdown with Japan's Kei Nishikori.

The eighth-seeded Nishikori appeared to be struggling with a wrist injury on Saturday and also had treatment on his back shortly before rain stopped play, with the Japanese player 3-0 down in the third set.

It was the first time in the Open era that two Asian men had met as late as the third round in a Grand Slam tournament, and Chung was bidding to become the first South Korean to reach the fourth round at Roland Garros.

"Each match, I feel like I played better", he said. Last year's runner-up put forth his second consecutive brilliant performance on Monday in Paris, dropping just seven second-serve points in a decisive 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory over first-rime Grand Slam quarterfinalist Karen Khachanov.

"I'm sure he's going to be as motivated as ever, so I expect him to come out and really play his best", said Djokovic, who has won all five matches, and 11 of 12 sets, he's played against Thiem.

The Japanese star recovered from a terrible start to beat veteran Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 0-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 in the French Open fourth round to reach a seventh Grand Slam quarter-final. In the women's draw, Simona Halep kept her first Grand Slam hopes alive while Carolina Garcia won her all-French grudge match with Alize Cornet.

That match lasted almost four hours and also saw Nishikori drop a set to love. "That helped me a lot".

"It was great honor to play with Kei".

"Nelson Mandela said that sport speaks universal language that gives strength to the people and creates the union between people like nothing else in the world".

"30 minutes before the match, I was just chilling".

The experienced 27-year-old, in his 100th Tour-level clay-court match, recovered his composure in time though, taking more risks and playing the angles to stretch Chung.

"I'm happy because Roberto is a very good player. Sorry that I don't remember much".

Nishikori had to save a set point in the first set.

Chung was voted the most improved player of 2015 by ATP players. There were so many long rallies, second and third sets.

Kei Nishikori admitted he couldn't remember last year's US Open upset of Andy Murray after booking a quarter-final rematch with the world number one.

"Actually, I'm very bad with the memories".
