The five-county Wichita metropolitan area continued to have the highest unemployment rate in May, at 4.3 percent, three-tenths of a point higher than it was in April.
"We have more work to do matching those seeking work with the almost 63,000 jobs available across the state", said Cheryl Stanton, executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce in a written statement. That represents the number of people working or actively looking for a job.

Kentucky's education and health services sector showed the largest gains with 1,100 more jobs in May 2017. The federal job growth rate was 1.6 percent. The biggest job increases were in educational and health services, up 2.5%, and government, up 1.9%.
