Mr Met gives fan the finger, employee out as team mascot

Steve Phelps | 02 June, 2017, 01:40

If you haven't seen it yet, here is Mr. Met's reaction to heckling fans after yet another loss dropped the team to 15 games behind division-leading Washington.

The Mets have been frustrated all season, but done their best to contain the frustration and not let it boil over.

The stress is understandable.

According to the team's website, Mr. Met "leads all active Major League mascots in high fours", referring to the number of digits on each cartoonishly oversized hand. Social media has had a field day with Mr. Met's antics, and some have correctly pointed out that Mr. Met only has four fingers so technically it wasn't the middle finger.

The kooky play came in the fourth inning with the Brewers ahead 2-0 after they loaded the bases with one out.

"We apologize for the inappropriate action of this employee", the Mets said in a statement.

Eric Sogard lofted a popup and Mets infielder Wilmer Flores gave frantic chase along the railing of Milwaukee's third base dugout.

Mets: RHP Matt Harvey (4-3, 4.95) faces the Pirates after beating them last Sunday night at PNC Park.

"It's just been an incredible run for us and it's hard to put into words other than 'wow, '" Martin said.

Mr. Met entertains the crowd between innings of a game between the Mets and the San Diego Padres at Citi Field on May 25, 2017. The over is 9-1 in New York last 10 Thursday games and the over is 16-5-5 in New York last 26 home games while the over is 31-12-8 in New York last 51 overall.

This marks the first time in school history the Sooners have qualified for the title match. The Mets' beloved mascot flashed an upraised middle finger at a fan during a 7-1 loss to the Brewers the night before, and the employee in the costume will not work for the Mets again.

Mr Met has been the official mascot for the New York Mets since 1962 and the costume is worn by more than one person every season. For a commercial back in 2005, the mascot pulled out a driver at his then-home, Shea Stadium, and blasted golf balls all over - and out of - the park. The incident was caught on video and quickly went viral, resulting in an apology from the 23-28 team.
