The President Is Not Under Investigation: Trump Attorney

President Trump Setting Up to Sack Robert Mueller In spite of tweet, lawyer says Trump not under investigation

"It was a striking show of solidarity between two men who previous year had been fierce presidential rivals - who had upbraided each other in deeply personal terms during one of the ugliest stretches of the Republican primary", the Washington Post reported on Friday.

"I do not appreciate you putting words in my mouth, when I've been crystal clear that the president is not and has not been under investigation", Sekulow shot back.

"He's not afraid of the investigation - there is no investigation", Sekulow said.

Sekulow did acknowledge on "Fox News Sunday" that he "can't read people's minds", but said there had been "no notification of an investigation" of the president by Mueller.

"It looks like we have got a simmering tea kettle here, and the President seems to be testing the waters about whether he ought to go ahead and fire Robert Mueller", said Richard Ben-Veniste, a former Watergate prosecutor who is now a CNN legal analyst.

He told CBS' "Face the Nation" that there has been no notice from the office of the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, that Trump is under investigation.

King and Rubio are both members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is running an investigation that partially parallels the Justice Department probe being run by Mueller. Those conversations, however, took place before Trump fired Comey - one of the acts that could be interpreted as part of an effort to obstruct the case - and before the Justice Department appointed Mueller. But Sen. Marco Rubio said Sunday that he does not expect Trump to seek to fire them. Ledgett wrote a memo, according to the source, documenting a conversation in which the president allegedly urged Rogers to help get the FBI to lift the cloud of the Russian Federation investigation.

The committee sent a bipartisan letter this month to White House counsel Don McGahn seeking an answer by this Friday. The committee also sent a letter to Comey asking for any notes or memos. Schiff cited the fact that the president at one meeting "cleared the room" of advisers and asked to speak to Comey alone.

Reports have raised questions about whether Trump requested their help in trying to get James Comey, then the Federal Bureau of Investigation director, to end an inquiry into Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

"That signifies this president knew all too well that it was inappropriate", Schiff said. He says that President Donald Trump, Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes and Democratic lawmakers should not be presuming an outcome. Angus King, an independent from ME, stressed that the probe will likely last for a long time.

"I'm not prepared to say that there's proof you could take to a jury, but I can say that there is enough that we ought to be investigating", says California's Rep. Adam Schiff. This is a very complex matter, involving thousands of pages of intelligence documents, lots of witnesses.

While aides have advised Trump to stay off Twitter, the president continued to weigh in Sunday as he spent the weekend at Camp David, the government-owned presidential retreat in Maryland.

In a two-part tweet posted before 7 a.m. Sunday, Trump wrote: "The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt".
