Sears Holdings is planning to close more Sears and Kmart locations in addition to the stores it said earlier this year it would shutter.

In January, Sears announced a round of more than 150 store closures, which included the Kmart at 8501 Auburn Blvd., in Citrus Heights.

The Elyria store will remain open for customers until September, according to a company spokesperson.

Store Manager Jackie Salzgeber confirmed the store's impending closing, but deferred further comment to corporate officials.

A liquidation sale for the location will begin on June 16.

The company has lost $10.4 billion since 2011, the past year that it made a profit, said The Associated Press.

A specific closing date for the store on West Main Street has not yet been announced. He said that his wife, who also works at the store, was there for the announcement.

Sears is closing 72 more stores - including three in New Jersey - expanding a list of closures that now reaches into the hundreds. Five years ago the company operated nearly 2,100 stores.

There are 18 Sears stores in MI and 27 Kmart stores. MI closings this year affected 11 Kmarts and one Sears store.

"Those associates that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores", Riefs said.
