Trump jump starts search for Federal Bureau of Investigation chief with two interviews

Comey will discuss his interactions with Trump, during which the president allegedly pressured the former director to provide information regarding ongoing FBI investigations. He wrote similar memos about each call and meeting he had with the president, who he felt was trying to influence the FBI investigation into possible collusion between Trump and his advisers and Russian officials. The former CT senator flashed a thumbs-up as he left the White House after the interview Wednesday, saying he and Trump had a "good meeting".

Pistole is in Washington for an interview this afternoon, USA Today reports, citing a former longtime Washington colleague of Pistole's.

Former FBI Director James Comey plans to confirm reports that President Donald Trump pressured him to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn's ties to Russian Federation in congressional testimony, CNN said on Wednesday, citing an unidentified source close to the issue.

Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the Russian Federation investigation, extolled the importance of integrity in a commencement address Monday afternoon, telling graduates "nothing else matters" if you aren't honest.

Pistole praised the choice of Mueller in an interview with USA TODAY earlier this month, saying his appointment could be "the best thing for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to get to the bottom of everything and bring some closure, whatever the outcome".

Five people on the short list to replace Comey have dropped out of consideration since the search began. But it was unclear if Pistole, now president of a Christian university in his hometown of Anderson, Ind., would want the job.

Since Comey's ouster earlier this month, there has been an ever-changing roster of candidates who could potentially replace him-all with various levels of law enforcement and legislative experience.

Trump also met with former Oklahoma Gov.

Earlier Thursday, House oversight committee chairman Jason Chaffetz told acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe that he wants records of Comey's contacts with the White House and Justice Department dating to September 2013, when Comey was sworn in as FBI director under President Barack Obama.

"Trump's first foreign trip was a huge success", tweeted White House spokesman Michael Short. The spokesman declined to say if the two men were finalists for the position. He held that role until 2014 when he became president of Anderson University.
