It is never a good day when a former Federal Bureau of Investigation director calls you a liar, but considering the high stakes and all that could have gone wrong, James Comey's testimony Thursday was a net plus for President Donald Trump. But what wasn't clarified was whether Trump is now being investigated for obstruction of justice.

Comey said he refused on all points, told senators of the detailed memos he had written after his conversations with Trump and said he hoped those conversations were taped because he is confident of their veracity.

That's according to a person close to the legal team who agreed to speak ahead of the filing on condition that the person's name is not used. The Senate Intelligence Committee has asked him for an interview.

"There's some jobs where the controversy would not be a benefit, but that's why I see him ending up in a place where he can be himself", said Evan Barr, a former federal prosecutor in New York City who worked under Comey in the USA attorney's office. In the hearing, Comey did not disclose any links between Trump advisers and alleged Russian meddling.Russia has denied such interference.

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication".

Pelosi is assessing the president this way: "I'm concerned about his fitness for office".

Up until Thursday, it was easy for Republicans and Democrats to take aim at Comey - and rightfully so. Susan Collins tells MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that she found him "credible, candid and thorough". "And some of the things he said just weren't true".

Comey's testimony was met with respect from members of both parties on the Senate Intelligence Committee, for the most part.

Mr. Comey has far greater credibility than Mr. Trump.

Painting a devastating picture of an untrustworthy president, Comey admitted he asked a friend to leak those notes to a reporter, betting - correctly - that the details would prompt the appointment of a special prosecutor.

Trump has a long history of responding to personal slights on Twitter, though his most volatile comments typically arrive in early morning and late-night hours, often when he is by himself and watching negative news coverage of his actions.

The White House is now trying to make an inconsistent argument - on the one hand saying that Comey is an unreliable witness who can not be trusted, and on the other pointing to parts of his testimony that they believe benefit the president.

As it turns out, Donald Trump is the hope-and-change president.

President Trump and Romania's President Klaus Iohannis give a press conference in the Rose Garden of the White House on Friday.

Comey nevertheless did not make any major new revelations about alleged links between Trump or his associates and Russian Federation, an issue that has dogged the president's first months in office and distracted from his policy goals such as overhauling the USA healthcare system and making tax cuts. House Speaker Paul Ryan tried to brush off the conclusion as Trump being new to the White House, but Sen.

It was not immediately clear how Mr Trump's sharp condemnation might affect U.S. cooperation with Qatar, which hosts some 10,000 United States troops and a major USA air base that serves as a staging ground for operations in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The President also rejected the allegation that anyone around him colluded with Russian Federation.

Comey's testimony underscored the discord that had soured their relationship.

Reporters asked Blunt if he stood by that assessment, even though Trump's version of events was incompatible with Comey's.

Trump Jr has certainly been willing to go on the attack for his father before.

At a joint news conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, Trump said he supports the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation charter's Article 5, the requirement that each member of the alliance defend each other if they come under attack.
