At least five Pakistani soldiers were killed and six others injured in retaliatory firing by Indian Army in the Bhimber and Battal sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

The personnel were injured as Indian and Pakistani armies exchanged heavy fire and shelling along the LoC in Mendhar area of Poonch district.

India recently resorted to firing in Battal, Jandrot and Kotli sectors, a statement from country's Foreign Office said.

The killings triggered massive anti-India demonstrations as thousands of villagers shouted pro-Independence and pro-Pakistan slogans while they marched during the funeral of the rebels, according to Kashmir Life newspaper.

Sartaj Aziz expressed grave concern at the constant ceasefire violations by Indian forces at the LoC and the targeting of innocent Kashmiris in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

On May 17, the Pakistan Army had resorted to firing on forward posts along the LoC in Balakote sector in Rajouri.

Quoting sources, news agency ANI reported that the Army retaliated strongly and effectively, eliminating five Pakistani soldiers. "A Head Constable from Border Security Force (BSF) was also injured in the attack", Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta told IANS.

The two sides regularly accuse each other of violating the ceasefire agreement in which civilians are killed and injured.

In Mankote sector, a mortar shell fired by Pakistani troops exploded close to a moving vehicle of GREF carrying staff for construction of a road close to LoC, sources said.

This is the third instance of ceasefire violation by Pakistan in last one week.
