Amanda Hawkins, 19, from Kerr County, Texas, was said to have left her daughters in the vehicle overnight on Tuesday and apparently ignored them when they cried out, Fox 29 reported.

Investigators with the Kerr County Sheriff's office and Kerrville Police concluded that the children actually had been abandoned inside their mother's vehicle for 15 hours from Tuesday night until noon Wednesday.

Amanda Hawkins, 19, was arrested on two counts of abandoning or endangering a child following the tragedy involving her young daughters, the Kerr County Sheriff's Office announced Friday.

On arrival, she claimed the two little girls had been smelling flowers at a lake when they collapsed. "She would like to get you things and bring 'em to you", she said.

When Hawkins showed up at the hospital with her daughter, she also had a 16-year-old male acquaintance with her.

The children died on Thursday at University Hospital in San Antonio, where they were admitted a day earlier.

The sheriff didn't say exactly what Hawkins and her friends were doing in the house.

The children died Thursday evening, and autopsies have been ordered, police say.

According to local weather reports, temperatures dipped to 60 degrees overnight before climbing to the high 90s on Wednesday. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hawkins is seen in the photo above with her husband, Isaac (right), and their daughter, Brynn. "Upon discovering the girls, the mother attempted to bathe them and did not immediately want to take the girls to the hospital because she did not want to get into trouble".

Authorities are searching a landfill in Arkansas as they investigate the death of a Colorado woman whose partial remains were found in Oklahoma earlier this year.

She was held Friday in lieu of bonds totaling $70,000.

Police will decide whether to upgrade charges following findings being presented to a grand jury which may choose to indict the mother on murder charges.

Miriam Davis, who knew the girls and Hawkins, told KSAT 12 that she stopped hanging out with Hawkins after the "mom" started neglecting her children.

'I hesitated for so long because I didn't want her kids in the system, ' told Davis. She bathed them and changed their clothes.
