On Monday, the streaming giant announced that it had acquired Millarworld, the comic book company created by Mark Millar. Millar's comic book company, publishing creator-owned work with artists like Frank Quitely, Greg Capulo, and John Romita Jr. for over a decade, has already seen success bringing projects to film, and already has several options and in-development works.

Mark Millar is also excited about the opportunity to work with Netflix, who also purchased Millarworld's intellectual property, including the rights of its former stories and character franchises. Three of them - Wanted, Kick-Ass and Kingsman - have been made into theatrical films that has grossed a combined almost $1 billion in global box office.

Netflix just made its first acquisition-and it's for a whole new world. "Netflix is the future and Millarworld couldn't have a better home", said Millar. Disney bought Marvel Studios in 2009 and has churned out blockbuster movies, TV series and toys based on its superheroes.

"Netflix is the future and we couldn't be more thrilled to sell the business to them and buckle up for all the fantastic movies and television shows we plan to do together". This is only the third time in history a comic-book company purchase on this scale has ever happened. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. "Netflix is the future and we couldn't be more thrilled to sell the business to them and buckle up for all the incredible movies and television shows we plan to do together", he said.

Millarworld, which is run by Millar and his wife, Lucy Millar, is the first acquisition Netflix has ever made.

"Mark has created a next-generation comics universe, full of indelible characters living in situations people around the world can identify easily with", said Netflix chief content office Ted Sarandos in a statement.

The acquisition will give Netflix a selection of character franchises which it can use to develop films, TV series and children's shows.

Netflix stock traded up at the market open.

Millar also previously worked for Marvel Comics, where he wrote the storylines that would eventually form the basis of the popular movies The Avengers, Captain America: Civil War and Logan.
