Everybody loves a good system software update, and having just heard about Microsoft's wholesale revamp of their console's OS - some of which isn't actually going down too well if you skirt through certain corners of Reddit - now the changes and improvements Sony have planned for system software 5.00 on PS4 have been leaked to Eurogamer.
Furthermore, the PS4's update 5.0 will offer additional changes that include an overhaul of the hardware's master and sub account systems, the ability to follow any user, as well as the addition of notifications to the console's quick menu. Now you can do this just for verified accounts of note, such as the official accounts for games, and some individual developers and YouTubers.
There's no telling when the update will actually be coming out, as a release date hasn't been announced for it yet.
No word yet on when the new firmware update will drop, but it's expected to be sometime soon, alongside a new version of the PlayStation mobile App with an improved design. Sony has said this is "encourage more sharing of content and interactions". If that idea disturbs you or you simply want Bob to stay out of our business, privacy settings will allow you to close yourself off to non-friends or block specific people. So if you have a bigger family with kids at different ages, a parent will be able to set up individual restrictions, and spending limits per child.
The final major change that Eurogamer mentioned is that you'll be able to view system notifications and the status of downloads/uploads from the Quick Menu.
Other changes include event push notifications, VR mode broadcasting will allow spectator comments on screen, broadcasts can be linked to the PlayStation Community, and support for bundle and compilation discs and more.
