Bennet will demand the cancellation of all agreements signed with the Palestinian Authority, including the abolition of the construction of a new residential neighborhood on the outskirts of Ramallah and the establishment of industrial zone in Tarqumia.

Hugi reported that sources that are "in the know" told him that Major General Majid Faraj, head of the Palestinian General Intelligence Agency, refused to sign the agreements until Hamas will agree to a truce in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Al-Hayyah has just come back from Egypt after Hamas signed an Egyptian-brokered reconciliation deal with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Party on Thursday in Cairo. "This must be stressed ahead of expected worldwide pressure to resume negotiations in light of the Palestinian agreement". But instead, the worldwide community should have tried to "pull Hamas into a dialogue", Blair said in an interview for Donald Macintyre's "Gaza: Preparing for Dawn", which is set to be released in November.

The crossing has remained largely closed in recent years.

Khalil al-Hayyah said in an interview aired on Saturday night by the official Gaza-based Hamas-run al-Aqsa Satellite TV that "we can not move back after all ministries and corporations in Gaza had been handed over to the government", Xinhua reported. Hamas and Israel fought three wars over the past decade.

Hamas seized control of Gaza from Abbas's Fatah in a violent coup in 2007.

The figure is however a fraction of the more than 20,000 police officers employed separately by Hamas.

But one central issue has yet to be discussed: the fate of Hamas' militant wing and cache of rockets and weapons.

Last week, Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah visited Gaza for the first time since 2015 and his ministers took formal control of government departments in the territory.

"Reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas makes peace [with Israel] much harder to achieve", Netanyahu said on his office's Facebook page. Following a decade of bitter animosity, the newly-minted deal calls for the PA to assume full governance over Gaza by December 1, along with control over the border crossings with Israel and Egypt. Among the sanctions was the Palestinian's decision to not pay Israel for electricity provided to Gaza, leading to a serious cut in the number of hours a day that electricity is available.
