Apple aware of cold weather affecting iPhone X touch input

iOS 11.1.1 update now available, includes 'i' autocorrect fix Apple has fixed that annoying 'i' glitch in iOS 11.1

Some users have speculated that the changes in light from indoors to outdoors could be the culprit, due to the iPhone X's use of a front-facing infrared camera and ambient light sensor for Face ID authentication and TrueDepth photography features. Clearly, it's not that cold already for such a radical behavior change to be justified under Apple's typical standards.

After complaints started surfacing that the OLED display of the iPhone X get unresponsive at low temperatures, Apple acknowledged the issue. At this point, the screen does not work reliably in terms of registering touch-based inputs.

Apple previously provided users with a workaround to mitigate the issue.

In a tweet, Apple said people could "fix it by installing the latest software update".

Ever since iOS 11.1 came out a week ago, many iPhone users complained about the glitch that automatically replaced a lower case "i" with odd characters in their pithy texts and social media posts.

'I try swiping on websites and it doesn't register my finger.

Apple issued iOS 11.1.1 this week, promising issues including the freaky "i" autocorrect, which changed the letter to an A and a question mark symbol. But Apple was quick to respond that it'll fix the issue via a software fix. Owners experiencing this problem say the unresponsiveness takes place immediately, not just when the phone itself cools down.

'Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off.

For now, the phone should return to normal within seconds.

The new update, iOS 11.1.1, also fixes a separate bug that caused "Hey Siri" to stop working.
