Patients ranged from age 52 to 94.

One individual, who did not visit the park, died from the disease although they were already suffering from other health issues.

The Orange County Health Agency said 12 cases of the bacteria-caused illness were found three weeks ago, and nine were people who visited the park in September, theLos Angeles Times reported.

The bacteria often spreads though water vapor or mist, and older people or those with compromised immune systems are most susceptible.

According to Good, during the week of October 20-26 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified Health Care Agency staff of the Legionnaire's disease cases that occurred in September.

Disneyland has shut down and decontaminated two cooling towers following an outbreak of Legionnaires disease that sickened 12 people, of which nine are guests or employees at the theme park in Anaheim, county health officials said on Saturday. "There is no longer any known risk associated with our facilities".

Disneyland Park informed health officials this month that elevated levels of Legionella had been identified in two of its 18 towers, which were then treated and disinfected. The towers are in a backstage area near the New Orleans Square Train Station, a Disneyland Resort spokesperson said.

"These towers were treated with chemicals that destroy the bacteria and are now shut down", said Hymel. The disease can also cause cardiac, renal and gastrointestinal involvement.

Legionnaires' disease is essentially an extremely unsafe form of pneumonia caused by inhaling the freshwater Legionella bacteria, which thrives in water systems like cooling towers, fountains, and hot tubs or pools that are not treated, per the Centres for Disease Control. The towers underwent more testing and disinfection on November 1 and were running again four days later.
