Jessica Jones Creator Brian Michael Bendis Hops From Marvel To DC

DC Comics Signs Brian Michael Bendis to Exclusive Contract Brian Michael Bendis Leaves Marvel, Signs Exclusivity Deal With DC

His young black and Latino character Miles Morales gained headlines in 2011 when he became the title hero in Ultimate Spider-Man (another character of Bendis', Riri Williams, has done the same recently for being the heir apparent to Tony Stark in Ironman).

A majority of the most popular writers and artists working in comics today have plied their trade for both Marvel and DC Comics.

"We are beyond thrilled to welcome Brian Michael Bendis exclusively to the DC family with a multi-year, multi-faceted deal".

Bendis has written for DC once in the past-contributing a Batman story to the 2007 collection Batman: The Greatest Stories Ever Told, Volume 2-but this is arguably less about Bendis getting the opportunity to work with a whole universe of characters he's never worked with before, and more about Marvel losing one of its biggest and most important writers.

"This is real", Bendis tweeted. Ultimate Spider-Man was such a success that it launched an entire imprint at Marvel. Change is good. Change is healthy. "Details to come! Stay tuned!"

Bendis was also often trusted to helm Marvel's special crossover event series including "Secret War", "House of M", "Secret Invasion", "Age of Ultron" (unrelated to the MCU film) and the recent "Civil War II". We wish him luck in his future endeavors and, like DC, can't wait to see what he can do with a fresh slate of characters.

DC Comics and Brian Bendis confirmed the news on social media.

Outside of his work on Ultimate Spider-Man, Bendis is behind an innumerable amount of iconic comics for Marvel.

Neither DC nor Bendis have announced what titles he will be working on for the home of Superman, or when we can expect to see his first works.
