Over the weekend, a Koenigsegg Agera RS piloted by test driver Niklas Lilja clocked an average speed of 277.9mph on two runs, making it the fastest production vehicle in the world. But looks like Koensigsegg has other plans.

While there is no standardised legislation surrounding production auto top-speed records, the runs by the Agera RS were recorded and verified by Racelogic, and Koenigsegg, along with the rest of us, must wait for official confirmation before the record becomes official.

The 1000kW/1371Nm Koenigsegg still had more potential though, something Lilja seemed to know quite well, as he went back for another run.

In the two races coupe Koenigsegg Agera RS showed an average result of 444,6 km/h. the Maximum recorded speed of 447 km/h. The 1,341 hp auto made two runs on the dead-straight highway, one in each direction, and its speeds were averaged as required for Guinness-recognized world record. It hit a ridiculously quick speed of 267.8 miles per hour (431.072km/h) in 2010.

At the beginning of October, the Agera RS also broke the time record for the 0-400-0, during which the auto must accelerate from 0 to 400 km/h and then decelerate back to a stop.

While it has not reached that speed yet, in October the auto was tested in public for the first time in Newquay, Cornwall. And it's not just fast, but it can accelerate, too. While one sees the driver hit 438 kmh/h, he reaches 457 km/h during another attempt. It is fitted with an EJ200 jet engine, sourced from a Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. Since this was a world record attempt, the speed was verified by a third-party company called Racelogic.

Not to be left behind in the speed stakes, electric cars have also been put through their paces on the race track.
